NTCA and Totalweld Cows for Schools Program

You are here

In 2017 the NTCA took inspiration from a program run by Central Australia beef producers at the Alice Springs show and came up with the ‘Cows for Schools’ program which asked Top End primary schools to decorate 2-dimensional wooden cows using the theme ‘why we love our NT pastoral industry’. There was an overwhelming response with a total of 20 cows being distributed to 12 local schools.

In 2021 the NTCA partnered with Totalweld Sales and Services in Yarrawonga to bring the Cows For Schools Program to Katherine and Tennant Creek in addition to Darwin and Alice Springs.

Almost 40 cows were decorated and displayed at the Shows, and the public voted for their favourite cows.

Her Honour, the Administrator of the Northern Territory, the Honourable Mrs Vicki O'Halloran judged the overall winner of the Cows For Schools competition.

Teachers and Schools! Contact to the NTCA today via email to to receive more information about the program.

The ‘Cows for Schools’ program is designed as a fun and hands-on way for students and teachers to work together to learn about the valuable contribution our pastoral industry makes to ensuring everyone has access to safe, affordable and healthy food every day.

Thank you to Totalweld for the ongoing support.
