NT Licencing & Registration

You are here

Recent changes to the NT Government's website has resulted in an efficient, user-friendly portal:  Driving & Transport

(formally the MVR website)

Motor Vehicle Licencing

This portal provides action on common issues such as:

  • Acquiring a new licence eg. Learners permit, heavy vehicle or motorbike
  • Updating licence address details
  • Changing a licence to NT from interstate

For reference when changing a licence over to NT, the webiste lists Categories A & B for formal identification.  Due to the nature of living remotely and recruiting new station staff, the NT Motor Vehicle Registry commonly accepts the following template as proof of residency:

Motor Vehicle Registration

It also provides information and forms on:

  • NT Rego app - free official NT Govt app for smartphones and tablets
  • Inspections
  • Changing registration (ownership) of a vehicle or plant
  • Deregistering or disposing of a vehicle or plant
  • Pastoral Permits
  • Number plates

To renew licences and registations online, the MVR Quickpay website still exists

For assistance with services such as

  • Vehicle Inspections
  • Obtaining a common registration renewal date for all plant & equipment
  • Receiving registration renewals via email instead of post

Contact a Regional MVR Office

Forms can also now also be lodged via email.  MVR personnel will provide relevant details.
