An Alice Springs Industry Tour was held for conference speakers & media, which showcased important Alice Springs district research and commercial operations.
The tour took in the unique Old Man Plains Research Station with stops at the Pine Gap Yards and Mulga Dam Yards, where, DPIF staff gave informative presentations on the innovative trials and leading-edge projects being conducted to assist Central Australian cattle production.
The visitors inspected the NTCA’s Bohning Yards facility, a modern cattle sale and spelling centre, managed by Noel Cuffe, boasting advanced electronic scanning and high level management capacity to cater for the varied and specialised needs of industry. The facility is EU accredited, and most recently gained National Certified Organic (NCO) and USDA National Organic programs (NOP) accreditation.
The last stop was historic Undoolya Station, where owner-manager Ritchie Hayes and his wife Leanne showed off their success with diversification on a pastoral property.
