The Northern Territory Rural College
Specialising in tropical agriculture and the North Australian pastoral industry, NTRC offers courses from the Certificate I level through to the Diploma level.
The 4,600 hectare campus of NTRC is home to the Rural College Brahman Stud. The
stud is used to supply our commercial cattle station with herd bulls and to provide improved genetics within the commercial herd. Development of a Quarter Horse stud is progressing with recent acquisition of two stallions.
Mataranka Station is situated approximately 100 km southeast of Katherine near Mataranka township.
Comprising approximately 77,000 hectares, the College
runs about 2,600 breeders. The station is used for training
purposes and gives a true representation of the North
Australian cattle industry to students enrolled in courses.
Students participate in all mustering and yard work, bore
running, fencing, and other associated tasks on the station.
Students at the Rural College learn about the North
Australian pastoral industry from the ground up.
Courses in Agriculture are
offered and have Beef
Production as the major area of
study.
Units of study are practical in nature with skills and
underpinning knowledge delivered mostly in the field.
Certificate I and II courses focus primarily on skills acquisition. As students progress to higher the levels additional theory is introduced to form a solid base of skills and knowledge in the pastoral industry.
