This workshop will broaden your awareness of the factors that interact in the rangeland
regions of Northern Australia and how, through management, the best solutions for cattle and country can be reached.
The GLM workshop has been tailored for both the Katherine and Central Australia regions so that it relates to and covers the management issues pertinent to those areas.
This has involved the inclusion of local information, research and feedback from producers in the regions.
Attending this workshop will assist you to:
- Understand the importance of land condition and how it relates to production; getting the balance right between the two
- Asses & monitor the land condition of your paddocks
- Calculate carrying capacities for your paddocks accounting for land condition, land type and distance to water.
- Understand the relationships between pasture, water, soils, woodlands, biodiversity, fire and weeds
- Work out how suitable pasture improvement or restoration activities may be on your property
- Calculate forage budgets so that target markets can be reached without jeopardising land condition and therefore perpetuity
- Determine the impacts of development options: financial, production and land condition
- Utilise and interrogate historical climate data when making management decisions
- Develop a Grazing Land Management plan for your own business
The focus of the workshop is producing outcomes for your own property.
A locally relevant case study property is used to explore different management options. You will help the owners of the case study property solve their management issues and develop a grazing land management plan.
At the end of each session, you will work on your own issues and begin developing a grazing land management plan for your own property.
The workshop creates a unique opportunity to discuss and share experiences faced when approaching individual and local issues.
Included in the package is a preparation/ introduction session, a three-day workshop and a follow-up day. The workshop uses an interactive style which builds on the knowledge you already have.
Each workshop presenter has substantial practical experience in grazing land management, including knowledge of property issues and close involvement with relevant research. As a participant, you have ongoing access to the presenters, even after the workshop ends.
