The Top End Flood Plains Strategic Program forms part of a strategic approach to mimosa (Mimosa
pigra) management that will assist the Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association (NTCA) members
and other land managers to reduce the effect of damage caused by mimosa in relation to primary
production and the natural environment.
The Department of Natural Resources, Environment, The Arts and Sport (DNREATS) has completed a comprehensive weed risk management assessment and has found mimosa to be a very high risk weed where potential exists for successful management.
This Strategic Program outlines an approach that can be taken by all land managers and land users
with respect to managing mimosa on their property and preventing further spread. The Strategic
Program also incorporates best management practice goals as documented by DNRETAS that
will ultimately contribute to strategic weed control at a Territory scale. Information on a range of
management techniques and control methods, including physical and chemical control, controlled burning and hygiene procedures is included in this program.
