Our Association

 

 

 

The Association was incorporated in February 1986 under the N.T. Associations Incorporation Act.

The objects for which the Association is established are to advance and protect the interests of cattle producers in the Northern Territory and in particular to:

  1. promote the development of the cattle land resources of the Northern Territory;
  2. carry out such activities as are necessary for the betterment of the cattle industry with concern for the livelihood of the pastoral community generally in the Northern Territory;
  3. collect and disseminate information of relevance to cattle producers in the Northern Territory;
  4. secure that government acquisition of property shall be on just terms;
  5. maintain public relations with any organisations, bodies or persons whatsoever for the purpose of advancing the interest of members;
  6. co-operate with and to affiliate with other unions or associations of a similar nature in any part of Australia;
  7. enable the association to amalgamate or affiliate with and to appoint representative to any employers' union or association in Australia;
  8. secure legal advice and assistance for members;
  9. conduct litigation in matters affecting the cattle industry;
  10. provide members with services of any kind or nature whatsoever;
  11. edit or publish any newspaper, periodical journal or book;
  12. for the purpose of giving greater service to members, to enter into any agreement with any person or firm, company, body or organisation whose business, undertaking or operations are or may be connected with the cattle industry and to purchase or otherwise acquire any paid up, contributing or other share of interest in any such business or undertaking and to form or promote or assist in the formation or promotion of any company, firm or association or body which may be deemed to be necessary or advisable to carry out the meaning and intention of these objects;
  13. represent members in the settlement of conditions of employment on holdings, including:
    • representation on legislation relating to employment,
    • negotiation of industrial agreements,
    • representation of members before industrial tribunals, and
    • settlement of disputes between members and their employee

The Association is financed from voluntary levies paid by individual producer members on a rate per head of cattle owned basis. Voting entitlement is based on one vote per holding held by a member.

Membership Categories


Membership shall be of three classes:
Full Memberhip, Associate Membership, and Honorary Membership

  • Full Membership of the Association shall be open to any individual, partnership or company owning or controlling cattle on a holding provided that the number of cattle owned by any such applicant is not less than 1,000 head and such applicant pays the Full Membership fee as fixed under clause 10.
  • Associate Membership of the Association shall be available to any person not eligible for Full Membership, on terms and conditions as may be determined by the Association from time to time.
  • A person not qualified for Full Membership, who owns not less than 50 head of cattle may, on payment of the minimum fee fixed for a Full Member, be admitted as Full Members.
  • Associate members shall have all the rights of Full Members except they shall not be entitled to vote or hold office.
  • No manager of a property shall be eligible for any class of membership unless his principal is also a member.
  • Honorary Members shall be persons who in the opinion of the members of the Association have rendered eminent service to the Association, and whose election to Honorary Membership is approved by a general meeting of the Association. Honorary Membership may be conferred for a period or for life.
  • Honorary Members shall possess all the rights and privileges of Full Members, but shall not be required to pay any subscription fees, but shall be subject to any legal obligations arising from the Rules of the Association.
  • A member may nominate in writing a person to represent that member at meetings of the Association.

FEES

Full Membership


A rate of $25 per one hundred (100) head of cattle, owned on the 1st of January each year.

The minimum Full Membership levy is $500 per annum.

Associate Membership: $300 per annum.

PLEASE NOTE: An amount of 10% should be added to cover GST.
