Adaptive Management: Weeds

 

 

 

Adaptive management is the process through which uncertainties surrounding major sustainable development issues are subject to analysis, prioritisation, testing, and monitoring leading ultimately to the dissemination and incorporation of improved management practices.

There are 22 known weed species in the Douglas Daly region, which include three identified as Weeds of National Significance because of their significant environmental damage. Weeds have a significant impact on pasture and crop production and are expensive to control.

The aims of the Weeds Management Program include an improved understanding of weeds in the Douglas Daly, developing a cooperative management approach, identifying more cost-effective measures for controlling weeds, and ensuring wildlife corridors are well-planned so they don’t become havens for weed or fire.

The weeds knowledge team plans to build up information on weed distribution and density and develop a strategic approach to weed control on farms, road verges and conservation areas.
