Adaptive Management: Water

Adaptive management is the process through which uncertainties surrounding major sustainable development issues are subject to analysis, prioritisation, testing, and monitoring leading ultimately to the dissemination and incorporation of improved management practices.

The objectives of the water management plan are to provide long-term security and certainty of water allocations, ensure decisions are based on sufficient research, and ensure clearing decisions are guided by farm management plans.

The water management plan is designed to:

  • Encourage improve knowledge of the availability of water, especially ground water;
  • Support a district water management plan;
  • Develop a better understanding of the movement of sediments, herbicides and pesticides into the river system and ground water;
  • Ensure the ability to transfer or sell water rights.

The water management plan also covers issues such as soil erosion, pollution by pesticides and herbicides, sedimentation in the Daly River and methods of reducing soil loss.
